Qualcomm’s final payment to BlackBerry is $940 million. Converted, this is approximately 841 million euros. That is the result of a binding arbitration proceeding between the two companies, initiated by BlackBerry.

blackberry reports that it has reached agreement with Qualcomm on the final amount, which must be paid by May 31. The amount includes attorney’s fees and interest. In April it was already announced that the minimum amount that Qualcomm had to pay would amount to approximately $ 815 million. However, the final amount has not yet been determined.

At the time, Qualcomm said that the case revolved around overpayment of royalties by the Canadian company. These are fees paid by the Canadian company to the chip designer between 2010 and 2015 per ‘subscriber unit’. It’s unclear exactly what BlackBerry paid the royalties for, possibly for use of patents or parts. Qualcomm said at the time that it disagreed with the decision. Because it was arbitration, no appeal was possible.

It was also announced on Friday that Qualcomm shareholders have started a case against the company, partly because of the way in which the company released the Snapdragon 810-soc. In addition, the chipmaker is embroiled in other lawsuits and competition investigations.
