Final Fantasy XVI will not be released directly for PC six months after its PS5 release
Final Fantasy XVI will be released on June 22 for the PlayStation 5. It is not yet known when the PC version will be released. The Japanese manufacturer says that this uncertainty has to do with the optimization process. The title will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive for six months.
On the Japanese PlayStation Blog confirms Square Enix’s Naoki Yoshida states that Final Fantasy XVI will be a time exclusive for the PlayStation 5 for six months. However, according to him, this does not mean that the PC version of the game will automatically be released for the PC six months after the PS5 release. According to Yoshida, that is a ‘completely different story’. He does not say when the PC version will be released.
He says this is not possible, partly because a lot of money and time has been spent optimizing for the PS5. “Of course, at some point I would like to release a PC version so that everyone can play as many games as possible. But even if we start optimizing the PC version after the PS5 version is released, we won’t be able to get it within a six months of optimization, so it won’t be out in six months. I would like to release the game eventually, and I think I will, but I’m not at the stage yet where I can say when.”
The action RPG revolves around Clive Rosfield, who is tasked with protecting his younger brother Joshua. In the game, Rosfield wants to take revenge on Ifrit, ‘a mysterious being’. He can turn into an Eikon; those are large mythical creatures. There are also other Eikons in the game, so you sometimes have to fight as Eikon against other Eikons. The game will have a story mode for players who mainly want to follow the story and are less interested in the action elements of the game.
