Some automakers are said to be demonstrating an iOS version for cars at the Geneva Motor Show next week. Among the car manufacturers would be Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo. The demonstration may coincide with the release of iOS 7.1.

The report about the demonstration of ‘iOS in the Car’ comes from the Financial Times. The manufacturers did not want to confirm the rumors. In previous reports, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Volvo were already mentioned as partners of Apple, along with Honda, Nissan, Chevrolet, Kia, Hyundai and Jaguar. It is unknown whether those manufacturers will also come up with demonstrations.

Apple announced the platform in 2013, but it has been quiet about the plans since then. CEO Tim Cook did call the car an important market for Apple. With ‘iOS in the car’ adapted cars can communicate with an iPhone 5 and iOS 7. Thanks to the connection to the iPhone, the screen in the car can display navigation, but can also be used to play music, send messages, or make phone calls. The operation can be done in two ways; via the buttons in the car itself, or via ‘Siri Eyes Free’, Apple’s voice control system.

The introduction may coincide with that of iOS 7.1. That version of the OS is also expected in March.
