FDA approves first app that can control insulin doses at pump
The US Food and Drug Administration has approved an app for the first time that can control insulin doses at an insulin pump. The first is for the medical company Tandem Diabetes Care, which will use the app in combination with its own insulin pump.
Customers who have the American company’s t:slim X2 insulin pump will soon be able to program their required insulin doses via the t:connect mobile app and adjust them if necessary. The app is available for both Android and iOS devices.
CEO John Sheridan says this is one of the most requested features from customers. According to the man, the option to control insulin doses via smartphone is a discreet solution for the treatment of their condition for many diabetes patients.
The company will soon come with an app update and a corresponding update for the insulin pump so that it can be controlled with the app. Both current and new American customers will not have to pay any additional costs, according to Tandem Diabetes Care.
