Fastned goes to court over Shell fast charging points

Fastned is taking the State to court because Shell is constructing a network of fast charging points for electric vehicles. Fastned, itself the operator of fast charging points, claims that Shell should not have had a permit for this.

The hearing on the case is due in two weeks, Fastned confirms to the NOS. Fastned does not agree that Shell will sell electricity on its license to supply fuel. “As a power supplier, we are not allowed to just sell gasoline,” says founder and CEO Michiel Langezaal. According to a Shell spokesperson, their permit has been supplemented: “And in that additional decision it was confirmed that Shell may install fast charging points.”

According to Fastned, Shell is favored in several ways. For example, the Rijkswaterstaat company should not be allowed to open shops at the fast charging points, because road safety would then be at risk. In addition, the provider is concerned that the charging stations are not yet on road signs. Among other things, Shell wants to provide its gas stations with fast charging points and took over the company The New Motion in October.
