Fans Ask Nintendo To Name Zelda Character After Robin Williams – Update
Fans have asked Nintendo to include Robin Williams’ name in a new Zelda game. The actor died by suicide this week and was a big fan of the series.
The Nintendo supporters have started a petition, which has now been signed more than 90,000 times. With this they almost reach the desired number of 100,000 supporters. In the petition, fans ask Nintendo to “please name a character after Robin Williams.” “He loved this series and it would be a great tribute.” Williams named his 25-year-old daughter, Zelda, after the game, among others.
At Polygon, the game manufacturer responds for the first time to the petition, which was created just after Williams’ death at the beginning of this week. “We appreciate the community’s support and are listening to the fans’ request. We won’t release anything about what may be possible in future games during this difficult time, but will keep thoughts of Robin close to us.” With that, Nintendo, which “loves” Williams and has collaborated with his daughter several times in the past, seems to keep the option open to immortalize the actor’s name in a game.
Williams, 63, was found dead Monday at his Los Angeles home. He was known for films such as ‘Good Morning, Vietnam’ and ‘Jumanji’ and received an Oscar in his career: for his supporting role in the film ‘Good Will Hunting’. The actor committed suicide after learning that he was suffering from Parkinson’s disease. The disease was still at an early stage.
In addition to Nintendo, fans also submitted a request to Blizzard to do something with Williams. They asked the game developer to include some of his famous sayings in World of Warcraft. One of the developers said they are working on it, Polygon reported earlier.
Update, 11:45 a.m. – Added paragraph about Blizzard upon request.
