Fallout 4 will receive a next-gen upgrade in 2023 for the Xbox Series X and S, PlayStation 5, as well as Windows. The upgrade includes the well-known features such as support for higher frame rates in the form of a performance mode and 4K support.

That 4K support probably takes the form of a quality mode, as a counterpart to the performance mode. However, Bethesda doesn’t use the word “mode” in the phrase where it talks about 4K resolutions, so that will have to be definitively evident from the upgrade itself. The Windows version will probably also get an upgrade when it comes to the frame rate; the 2015 game has a built-in maximum of 60fps, provided the player does not mods used. The Windows version already supports a 4K resolution.

Bethesda continues to speak of non-specific ‘bug fixes’ and ‘Creation Club bonus content’. That’s Bethesda’s counterpart to the Steam Workshop, but includes paid mods that in some cases are also company-funded.

Fallout 4 is a first- and third-person action RPG set in the state of Boston, 210 years after a global nuclear war devastated the world as we know it. The player must search for his or her lost newborn son, but also becomes embroiled in larger conflicts that take place in the world. Fallout 4 originally came out in 2015 for Windows, the PlayStation 4, and the Xbox One.
