Fairphone starts selling left or right earbuds only
Fairphone has started selling replacement earbuds for its set of wireless earbuds. Customers can purchase a single earbud in the event that only the left or right earbud is broken or lost.
Delivery of the replacement left or right earbuds starts this week, says Fairphone. As a result, the price is now also known for the first time. Fairphone asks 45 euros for a replacement earplug. A new set with two earplugs and charging case costs 99 euros.
A single new earplug only comes with a medium-sized silicone tip. If users want a different size, they have to buy a set of new silicone caps for 5 euros. It is possible to mix colors. The earbuds are available in black, gray and green.
The sale of a few earplugs fits in with Fairphone’s strategy to deal more sustainably with wireless earplugs. Unlike the manufacturer’s phones, the earbuds are not repairable. According to the manufacturer, that was not possible. Fairphone wants to follow the same path as with its phones, where the first version was also poorly repairable. Apple has been offering replacement left or right earbuds for its AirPods for years.
