Fairphone releases Android 13 upgrade for Fairphone 3 and 3+
Fairphone has released an Android 13 upgrade for the Fairphone 3 and 3+. This upgrade had already been announced, but the company previously spoke of the end of June. The upgrade will come to users in phases.
The Fairphone 3 and 3+ supported a maximum of Android 11 before the upgrade. The two phones therefore skip Android 12. The smartphone manufacturer says it does this, because Qualcomm no longer supports the Snapdragon 632 SoC used. Fairphone therefore had to create more software itself for the upgrade and therefore decided to immediately work on an Android 13 upgrade, because this version is not much different from Android 12.
Fairphone released the 3 in 2019 and the 3+ appeared a year later. The 3+ has better cameras and speakers, and is made from more recycled materials. Fairphone says it wants to extend the software support of the 3 by two years, which should mean it will receive software updates until mid-2026. It is not clear whether there is also an additional Android upgrade.
