Factorio Coming to Nintendo Switch on October 28 with Multiplayer and Crossplay

Wube Software will release the construction and management game Factorio for the Nintendo Switch on October 28. The game will get multiplayer support and crossplay with the PC version of the game.

The popular building and management game developed for mouse and keyboard will not be limited in possibilities or content on the Nintendo Switch, so emphasizes the developer. “The gameplay is not simplified and there are no artificial limits built in.” There is no mod support for the Switch version, which was to be expected.

Save files are compatible with both versions of the game, but there is no special function to transfer files. However, a map, even when it was created in single player, can be transferred to a multiplayer session to transfer a save file to a new device via crossplay.

Both docked and in handheld mode, Factorio should be able to run at 30 to 60 frames per second for the regular portion of the game. Wube Software does warn for possible performance problems on the Nintendo Switch when players want to build a huge factory. After ‘finishing’ the game, players can in principle continue to build indefinitely, which can also lead to a reduced number of updates per second on the PC. The game cannot keep up with the desired number of ticks because of the many CPU-bound calculations that take place. As a result, the game runs slower and can cause a ‘significant limitation of the ups’ in so-called mega bases.

In Factorio, players crash into an alien planet. By processing raw materials into increasingly complex products in an increasingly complex factory, a rocket must eventually be built to leave the planet. Meanwhile, the native insect-like creatures constantly attack the player because of the pollution caused by the factory.
