Facebook’s profit has more than doubled

Facebook made $3.7 billion in profit in the past quarter. That is more than double the profit of $1.6 billion in the same quarter a year earlier. The social network continues to see the number of users growing.

In December, 1.23 billion users were active on Facebook every day, the social network announced during the presentation of the quarterly figures. That is an increase of 18 percent compared to a year earlier. Almost all visits come from smartphones: 1.15 billion users were active daily with their mobiles. Facebook now has 1.86 billion members who are active monthly. That is an increase of 17 percent compared to a year earlier.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, Facebook had ad revenue of $8.6 billion. An increase of 53 percent year over year. Profits came in at $3.7 billion. Throughout 2016, Facebook had a revenue of $26.9 billion and a profit of $10.2 billion, equivalent to about 9.5 billion euros. Both turnover and profit have increased considerably compared to 2015. Then a turnover of 17 billion dollars was achieved and the profit came to 3.7 billion dollars. Facebook gets most of its revenue from mobile ads. That was 84 percent in the past quarter. That percentage was the same in the previous two quarters.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in the presentation of the figures that he sees video as the most important trend and that the company will continue to put video first in the coming period. Use of the social network’s Live Video feature peaked during New Year’s Eve. Zuckerberg does not say how many people used the function to stream live.
