Facebook will show twice as many ads in Instagram Stories

Facebook will show more ads in Instagram. These will be included in the Stories function, among other things. This concerns both the Android and iOS version, which will soon contain twice as many ads.

The social network will initially start with a test among a limited group of users who see the ads. It would almost double the number of advertisements that users already see in the disappearing Stories, which currently also contain advertisements from companies. Under Facebook’s new plans, users will soon see two ads from different advertisers in succession. It is not known whether this happens in all cases or only in some.

It’s just a test for now. Facebook tells AdWeek that the company wants the additional ads “to provide a smoother experience for users.” According to Facebook, the loading of ads would depend on how users view them. Rotating them in succession would show them more smoothly. The company goes on to say that it is studying how users accept the additional ads.

The news comes shortly after a story from The Information describes how Facebook forced Instagram’s leadership to monetize the app. Stories are a logical place for this; that’s also the place in WhatsApp where Facebook would like to place ads in the future. Stories in Instagram are currently viewed by 500 million users per day. Facebook has also recently started placing ads in the ‘Discover’ tab.
