Facebook uses data from Oculus headsets for ads after permission
Facebook will use data from Oculus products for personalized advertisements. This is evident from an update to the Oculus privacy policy. That won’t happen until Oculus users link their Facebook account.
Oculus has started offering the link with Facebook. When users create the link, Oculus sends data about users and usage to Facebook for ad personalization. Oculus promises it won’t happen without that pairing. This does not only concern advertisements within Facebook apps, but also outside them.
Facebook is one of the largest advertising companies in the world and offers personalized advertising by collecting data about users. Facebook was not previously able to have data that shows what users do in VR. Oculus has been part of Facebook for 5.5 years. The use of the data for advertisements is now also included in the Oculus privacy policy.
As part of the link, users can also add their contacts from Facebook to Oculus services to have more contacts in VR experiences and VR games that work with online multiplayer. It is also possible to livestream to your own Facebook account and chat with contacts in VR.
