Facebook Unveils Friends App for Oculus Rift
Facebook has announced the VR app Spaces. The app works in conjunction with the Oculus Rift and allows users to create an avatar and interact with friends and do things in virtual reality environments.
Users can automatically create their avatar in the Spaces app based on a photo and adjust it afterwards. Then they can invite friends and draw together and view photos and video in VR. Friends can also be called, including via video. The app starts as a test version. According to Facebook, the company is only just starting to find out what is possible with social VR and the company is also bringing Spaces to other platforms, without making it clear which platforms it concerns.
Facebook has also expanded the possibilities of its Messenger app. Finding chatbots has been made easier and the app has support for a new kind of QR codes: Messenger Codes. Chat Extensions now allow users to place external applications in group conversations, such as music from Spotify. In addition, the personal assistant M is more present and now gives suggestions.
