Oculus Studios, owned by Facebook, is acquiring Beat Games, creator of the popular VR title Beat Saber. The Prague studio remains independent and continues to develop Beat Saber for multiple VR goggles and not just those from Oculus, that’s the promise.

Oculus Studios reports that its resources and knowledge will help Beat Games bring more music and functionality to Beat Saber and bring the game to more players. Oculus emphasizes that Beat Studios will continue to operate independently and will not prioritize development for the Oculus headset as far as Beat Saber is concerned.

In addition, Oculus promises to do “its best” to maintain the added value of mods for Beat Saber. The company says it appreciates mods “as long as they’re done legally and within our policies.” The company also hints at more acquisitions in the VR field. Details about the acquisition, such as an acquisition amount, are not disclosed by either company.

Beat Saber is a popular VR title that requires players to hack into objects approaching them with a red and blue lightsaber that represent parts of the music. Among other things, the game is widely used for modding, where music is used without the necessary license. The game has been released for Oculus’ Rift and Quest headsets, the HTC Vive, Windows Mixed Reality headsets, and the PlayStation VR. A 360-degree mode for the game will appear in December and Beat Games is also expanding the music offer this year.
