Facebook starts labels for satirical pages and fan pages

In the United States, Facebook has started showing labels on certain pages that indicate what kind of page it is. Pages of government officials, fan pages and pages of satirical media, among others, are now labeled with explanations.

The labels are in posts under the name of the page, says Facebook. Users can click on it and get an explanation. The goal is for people to better understand why a Page posts something, Facebook says.

Labels will be added to three categories of pages: satirical pages to distinguish them from real news, fan pages to presumably distinguish them from artist pages, and pages from politicians, for example. It is unknown if and when the labels will also be shown in Europe. Facebook often takes measures first in the US home country and then elsewhere.
