Facebook releases Windows 10 apps for Facebook, Messenger and Instagram
Facebook is releasing three new apps for Windows 10: a Facebook and Messenger app for PCs, and an Instagram app for Windows 10 Mobile. This fulfills a long-awaited promise: a native Instagram app for the mobile platform.
The apps have been announced by both Microsoft and Facebook. With the Facebook app on the desktop, it is possible to pin separate Live Tiles with a specific feed, such as news, certain friends or pages the user follows. Also, sharing photos directly from other Windows applications is possible with the app. The application includes a browser, so users do not have to leave the environment to read and share articles from the newsfeed. The Facebook app will replace the existing software and an app for Windows 10 Mobile is on the way, the companies promise.
The Messenger application has the same features as the mobile version with stickers, groups and gifs. In addition, the app also transmits desktop notifications and shows that information via Live Tiles.
The highly anticipated Instagram app is now out of beta and available on the Windows Store. The app includes Instagram Direct, Explore and video. Like the other two applications, Instagram’s Windows app supports Live Tiles, which show updates on the mobile device’s home screen.
With the new apps, the old Facebook Windows 8 app will be phased out and replaced by the Windows 10 variant. The app also gets a new logo.
