Facebook makes deals with publishers for News section
Facebook seems to be looking to expand its news reporting services soon. Deals have been made with News Corp., but probably with other publishers as well, such as Buzzfeed News, The Washington Post and Business Insider.
The Wall Street Journal, of which News Corp. the publisher. Other issues of News Corp. appear in Facebook News, which does not seem to concern full news items, but rather headlines with short pieces of text. Exactly what messages appear in users’ feeds depends in part on algorithms, but will also be determined by human curators.
Facebook is in talks with more publishers to provide news content for Facebook News. According to sources from The Wall Street Journal, this includes the publishers of The New York Times, Buzzfeed News, The Washington Post and Business Insider. No official confirmation of this has been given yet.
The news section would be accessible in a separate tab on Facebook. According to The Wall Street Journal, the opportunity will be released as early as next month. Facebook will then pay royalties to the publishers for content posted.
