Facebook makes apps for virtual reality glasses
Facebook is working on apps for the social network that function in virtual reality. That’s what a CEO of Facebook said during an event. He remained vague about when the apps that work on VR glasses should be released.
It is not illogical that Facebook is working on such apps. Last year Facebook bought Oculus, maker of the VR glasses Oculus Rift. According to Facebook’s chief product officer Chris Cox, it will be “a while” before the virtual reality apps appear. Recode writes this in a live blog of the interview on Recode’s event CodeMedia.
What exactly the apps would offer is still unknown, but Cox hinted that users can share their environment with contacts on Facebook via the apps, according to The Verge. That, he said, would become a very normal thing to do. This allows contacts on Facebook, for example, to experience what a place their friends visit.
Recently, Oculus technology first appeared in VR glasses that are actually for sale. Oculus collaborated on the Gear VR, a Samsung accessory in which users can plug the Galaxy Note 4 smartphone to turn it into VR glasses.
