Facebook lets users post videos in comments

Facebook allows users worldwide to post videos in comments. The opportunity is the result of a hackathon at the company earlier this year. Facebook is bringing the option to the web version of the social network and the iOS and Android apps.

Users can add videos via the camera icon next to the comment box. The functionality was developed at the beginning of this year during the fiftieth hackathon within Facebook. According to the developers, it was not easy to create the combination as both comments and videos generate a lot of traffic. In addition, the support for multiple interfaces gave the development team some headaches.

Video is playing an ever-growing role at Facebook. At the beginning of this year, the platform announced that users watch a total of 100 million hours of video on the site every day. Facebook has expanded its video platform with, among other things, live video streaming and 360-degree videos. The latter were announced in September last year and can now be posted and viewed.
