Facebook lets users create anonymous chat rooms with the Rooms app
Facebook has announced a new mobile application that allows anonymous chat rooms to be set up. An account for the Rooms app, which was developed by the Facebook Creative Labs, would not be necessary.
Rooms users can set up chat rooms themselves with a theme of their own choice and invite others. This can be done by means of QR codes that can be sent to others. The QR codes can also be printed and hung, allowing access to a chat room by taking a photo with a mobile phone. Photos and videos can also be placed within the chat box.
The Rooms app was built by Facebook’s Creative Labs. It is striking that users of Rooms can use a pseudonym, while the social network service requires a full first and last name. However, messages in a chat room can be moderated by Facebook employees if they are marked as inappropriate and the chat box owner can set an age limit. The app is currently only available for iOS devices in a number of English-speaking countries.
