Facebook is working on integration of paid content in news feed
Facebook is working on a new functionality to remove paywalls on its sites. Users who are subscribers to a newspaper or magazine can link their login details, so that paid content can be read directly from the news feed.
The new functionality has been tested for some time and according to Facebook the first results are positive. Users who link their Facebook account with their account with paid content publishers read much more than subscribers who have not linked the logins; the company thinks that “password fatigue” is the main reason users don’t bother to log in and thus read less. Due to its success, the test is expanded and new functions are added.
The intention is therefore that subscribers who see content in their Facebook feed will no longer be presented with a paywall; By linking the login data, an article can be read directly within Facebook. After linking, more content from the relevant publisher is also shown in the feed.
Due to the success, Facebook wants to give more publishers the opportunity to participate in the project. It should also be made easier to link accounts and Facebook is looking at ways to measure customer retention; the social network site wants to make the feature attractive to publishers. For the time being, mainly American publishers are participating, it is not yet known when the functionality will come to other countries.
