Facebook introduces tool for securing user accounts
Facebook has released a tool to help users of the social networking site keep their accounts safe. Users get a pop-up and are then guided through a process that should lead to a more secure account in a number of steps.
The company behind the social networking site announced this on Thursday afternoon. The tool called Security Checkup will soon appear at the top of everyone’s timeline, although it may take several weeks for the feature to appear for everyone. It is also possible to access the security function via the url https://www.facebook.com/help/securitycheckup, making it immediately accessible to everyone.
With Security Check, Facebook aims to guide its users through a number of security options in a few simple steps. For example, it is offered to log out of locations that have not been used for some time and tips are given for choosing a strong password. It is also offered to enable a function that sends an email when logging in from a new location.
For now, the security check is only available to users who surf to Facebook via the desktop. In the short term, however, the tool should also come to mobile users.
