Facebook integrates video service Messenger Rooms in Instagram

After WhatsApp, Instagram is now also receiving support for setting up Messenger Rooms, Facebook’s video conferencing service. Instagram users can create a Messenger Room directly from their message box, if they have a Facebook account.

Earlier, Facebook already released a beta of Whatsapp with a link with Messenger Rooms, where the company already indicated that Instagram would also follow. Now, according to Engadget, the necessary update of Instagram appears to have been released, which includes the link with Messenger Rooms. This allows Instagram users to create a Room for video calling from their message inbox.

Create a Messenger Room if you have a Facebook account associated with Instagram. If you don’t have Facebook, you can still visit someone else’s Room. It also remains possible to use Instagram’s own video calling function.

Facebook released Messenger Rooms last week. The feature allows Facebook users to video call 50 people at the same time. For the built-in video chat feature in Instagram, that’s limited to six people. Guests can join a Room as long as they have the link. In the long run, Facebook wants to encrypt Rooms conversations end-to-end.
