Facebook gives app function for deleting or archiving old messages
Facebook is adding the Manage Activity feature to its app. This gives users a new opportunity to manage old posts on the social network. Messages can be deleted in bulk via the function, or archived so that others cannot see them.
The feature can be found in the app via the Activity Log. Users get there by going to their profile and clicking the three dots next to Add story. For now, the Manage Activity feature is only in the Facebook app. Later, it will also come to the desktop version and to Facebook Lite.
From the new menu, users can filter messages from, for example, a certain period, or messages containing specific people, and then delete them in one go. The posts then end up in a trash can and are permanently deleted thirty days later. It is also possible to archive messages. They are then no longer visible to other users, but the uploader can still see them in his or her archive.
Last year, Facebook already released its Clear History tool. Users can see information about websites and apps that track them and forward information to Facebook. The tool allows users to unlink that shared information so that it is no longer associated with their account on Facebook.
