Facebook comes with Tributes section on profiles of deceased people
Facebook is adding a Tribute section to the profiles of deceased people, next to the Timeline. The new place is intended for friends and family to share memories, for example.
The Tributes section comes to memorialized accounts. These are accounts of deceased people of which a contact person designated in advance by that person has indicated that the person has died. That contact can also manage the Tributes section on the profile, Facebook explains. For example, it is possible to adjust who can view and post tributes and posted messages can be deleted.
Posts posted to a memorialized person’s Timeline in recent times are automatically moved to the Tributes section. Facebook says it is doing “its very best” to distinguish tributes from timeline posts. The Tributes section is not yet visible on all profiles, but Facebook says it is in the process of rolling out the functionality everywhere.
Facebook also says it is adjusting its algorithms so that profiles of deceased people do not appear at inappropriate moments. As an example, the social network mentions creating an event, which then makes suggestions to invite contacts. In such cases, memorialized profiles should no longer appear.
