Facebook comes with live video streaming and photo and video collages

Facebook is going to give its users the ability to stream live video to friends. At the same time, there will be an option to automatically bundle uploaded photos and videos into a collage, based on the time and location they were captured.

An overview of the upcoming new features is given on Facebook’s blog. The main new functionality is to let users stream live images to friends on the social network via their smartphone. It is also possible to select the audience yourself. Those interested can subscribe to the videos; then they will be notified the next time the video stream is turned on again. When a video stream has ended, the entire video is put on the timeline, so that it can be viewed again. The Live Video service is currently being tested and is therefore only available to a small part of Americans with an iPhone.

In addition, Facebook is coming with a feature it calls Collages. With that, it wants to automatically sort photos and videos posted by users on the social network into collages. Composite lists are created based on the time and location at which photos and videos were taken, while still allowing users to make changes before sharing a collage. Collages is available immediately for iOS users and will come to Android sometime early next year, according to Facebook.

To make it easier for users to choose between sharing different status updates, Facebook has slightly changed its interface. In the field where users can make a post, there will be a drop-down list with various options, including Live Video and posting a photo or video. This feature is also available for iOS and Android.
