Facebook, Apple and YouTube remove content from controversial Alex Jones
Facebook, Apple and YouTube have removed Alex Jones podcasts, pages and video channels from their platforms. Jones is a very conservative American host of a radio show that often dismisses minorities and deals with fake news, among other things.
Facebook reports that it has removed the pages of the Alex Jones Channel, Alex Jones, InfoWars and Infowars Nightly News because content that violates Facebook’s Community Standards has been published on more than one occasion on these pages in recent days. According to Facebook, the pages glorify violence and use inhuman language to characterize, for example, Muslims, transgenders and immigrants. The pages have not been completely removed, but have only been made invisible to the public for the time being. Jones will have another chance to appeal Facebook’s decision.
Apple has also confirmed that it has removed five of the six podcasts from Jones’ The Alex Show, according to CNBC. Many InfoWars podcasts have also been removed. Spotify has also previously removed content from Jones, and YouTube recently did the same. Google has discontinued The Alex Jones Channel, although the company has not disclosed the exact reason. Google tells CNBC that such a measure can be taken if users are inciting hate.
Alex Jones is a very right-wing, conservative American who is involved in, among other things, the spread of conspiracy theories and fake news. For example, he claimed that the shooting at the American Sandy Hook school did not take place. Facebook was previously criticized for not acting sufficiently against Alex Jones’ content. Earlier, the platform banned Jones for 30 days because his publications violated Facebook’s standards.
