Facebook appears to be working on Campus section for students
The Facebook app includes links to Campus, a new private area designed for students. Within Campus, students can create groups and events for their own university community.
Facebook itself hasn’t disclosed anything about Campus yet, but developer Jane Wong discovered its presence in the app. Wong studies the code of apps in search of unannounced functions, something that has been successful in recent years. She places screenshots on Twitter which shows a login screen for Campus. It states that it is an ‘exclusive space’ for students of a certain university.
Members can specify which year they are in, what they study and which dorm they stay in. In this way, Facebook wants to connect students who follow the same path. It is not known whether and when Facebook will announce the Campus component to the world.
With Campus, Facebook seems to be returning to its roots. The social network was founded in 2004 by a number of Harvard students, including Mark Zuckerberg. Facebook, then called TheFacebook, was initially a face book with names and photos of students.
