Facebook announces that one in five videos is live video
Facebook has announced that one in five videos on Facebook is now a live stream. The amount of time users spend watching Facebook Live has more than quadrupled in the past year.
Fidji Simons, who leads the development of video products on Facebook, released these figures on her Facebook page. She posts the message in honor of the fact that the live streaming feature became available to all users worldwide a year ago.
Facebook introduced the Live feature in late 2015 to a small group of US iOS users. Later it also appeared for Android. Facebook has made major investments to make the feature successful and even paid other companies to use the feature. This could involve amounts of up to three million euros per company.
Facebook Live has been expanded with new features in the past year. For example, support for live 360-degree videos was added in December and Facebook later introduced Live Audio, which enables live streaming of sound. Recently, Facebook added the ability to record streams using a laptop or desktop computer’s webcam.
