Facebook adds music and movie recognition to mobile app
Facebook has added new functionality to its mobile app, which can recognize music and movies. When creating a new message, the app suggests adding information about the song or program.
When users enable the option, the app uses the smartphone’s microphone to recognize the song, movie, or TV show playing in the background. That means if you want to share listening to your favorite Beyoncé song, or watching the Game of Thrones premiere, you can do it quickly and easily, without typing.
Users will see an audio icon above the message they are typing, indicating that the app is recognizing. They can then add the information in the event of a match. In the shared message, music shows a 30-second preview of the song and TV program, for example, lists the season and episode. Facebook will roll out the functionality to the iOS and Android apps in the coming weeks.
