Facebook acquires bookmarking tool Spool
Facebook has acquired the Spool website. Spool let users send bookmarks to their iPhone. It concerns a so-called talent acquisition; the service itself is closed and the staff moves to the social network.
It is unknown what amount Facebook has deposited for the service, which existed for two years, although according to GigaOm it is a relatively small amount.
It is clear that Spool will close its doors. Users of the bookmarking service, which was similar to Instapaper and Pocket, received their bookmarks in an email.
The Spool team joins Facebook. That’s in line with comments from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who noted that it’s difficult for Facebook to adapt to mobile devices. Spool’s expertise could therefore come in handy. Google, Twitter and Dropbox were also interested in the acquisition, according to GigaOm.
