Explosion Occurs at SpaceX’s Starship Rocket on Launch Pad
An explosion occurred Monday night at the bottom of a Super Heavy booster on SpaceX’s Starship rocket. That happened during a test. It is not yet known what caused the explosion. The booster used 33 Raptor engines.
Super Heavy Booster 7 was deployed on SpaceX’s test launch pad at Boca Chica, Texas. Tests were planned with the booster, but it was not a static fire test of the engines. on video footage you can see how suddenly an explosion seems to occur from below near the rocket. The ensuing fire does not last very long and the booster does not appear completely destroyed in the images.
The Booster 7 is the first stage of SpaceX’s future Starship rocket. The booster had 33 Raptor engines. It is not yet clear what caused the explosion or whether the Raptor engines had anything to do with it.
SpaceX boss Elon Musk says on Twitter that there are ‘challenges with the use of cryogenic fuel’. “If that evaporates, there is a danger of explosions in an oxygen-rich atmosphere such as on Earth.” However, he does not say whether that is also the cause of the explosion. musk also says that the team will go to the launch pad in the morning US time to do research.
