EvLeaks: Surface device with two screens running on Windows 10X
The new version of Windows running on the upcoming Surface device with two screens is called Windows 10X. That is the opinion of telecom journalist Evan Blass, who posted photos of many new Surface products online on Tuesday.
In a short explanation on Twitter Blass says the new operating system is called Windows 10X. That would be a Windows version designed for dual-screen devices and folding-screen devices. Desktop apps run in containers with that version, Blass said. He does not provide any further explanation, but it could mean that some form of virtualization is being used.
There have been rumors for a long time about the arrival of a new Windows 10 variant. Previously it was called Windows Lite or Windows Core. According to Blass, the name is Windows 10X. Microsoft is likely to announce the new Windows variant on Wednesday at its Surface event. There have been rumors for a long time about a Surface device with two screens, which will be shown then.
Blass already posted images online of other Surface devices that will be announced earlier on Tuesday. These include a new Surface Pro, a variant with an ARM processor and the Surface Laptop 3 in 13″ and 15″ versions. No images of the device with two screens have yet appeared.
