According to telecom journalist Evan Blass, LG will show a foldable smartphone at the CES fair in early January 2019. Concrete information about the device is not yet known. LG makes its own OLED screens and can thus develop the foldable screen itself.

It is not yet clear whether it is actually a product introduction, or whether it is a demonstration of a device that will come later. According to Evan Blass, known for his Twitter account @evleaks, is a revelation. The CES consumer electronics trade show begins on January 8, 2019.

Earlier this month, LG already confirmed that the company will come with a foldable smartphone. A top man of the manufacturer said he did not want to be the first with such a device, but did not give details about when the phone will be released.

LG has probably been working on the device for years. In July, a patent from the manufacturer, which was already filed in 2015, appeared, showing a foldable smartphone. Whether the final design actually resembles the phone described in that patent is not clear. Companies file many patents without this actually leading to products.

In addition to LG, more manufacturers will probably soon present foldable smartphones. Rumors about such a device from Samsung have been going on for years. According to a recent rumor, Samsung has two prototypes and has yet to choose which one it will produce. Huawei is also working on a foldable smartphone. Whether that is a model with a folding screen is not clear. Earlier, the manufacturer said it was working on a copy with two screens. Both Samsung and LG make flexible OLED panels that make folding screens possible.
