EVGA showed off a special edition of the Nvidia GTX 980 Ti at CES 2016: the GTX 980 Ti VR Edition. The video card is part of Nvidia’s program to prepare PCs for virtual reality.

The card is optimized to meet the demands of upcoming virtual reality devices, such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. For example, the 980 Ti VR Edition has a panel that is accessible from the front of the PC. This panel has an HDMI 2.0 connection and two USB 3.0 ports. The two USB connections are not enough to use the Oculus Rift, because its specifications indicate a minimum of four ports. This minimum assumes that a controller is also used, so the two ports may be sufficient for just the Oculus Rift glasses.

Furthermore, the 980 Ti VR Edition has a mini HDMI port on the back. EVGA clocked the card at the speeds of the standard 980 Ti. This implies a base speed of 1000MHz or 1075MHz with boost. Furthermore, the card probably contains 6GB DDR5 memory, equal to the non-VR edition. A price and release date has not yet been announced.
