Evernote comes with two-step authentication

Evernote has announced that it will introduce two-step authentication. This can be done by sending a code to a mobile phone when a connection is made from a new device. Evernote was previously the victim of a hack in which account data was stolen.

With the new security feature, which is optional, Evernote wants to better protect user accounts, the company says behind the popular note-taking software know on his blog. Users who choose to enable two-step authentication must provide a mobile number that will be used to receive verification codes: when the user wants to log in to the service with a new device, a code is sent to the specified mobile number. Only after entering this verification code is it possible to log in. No code is required if logging in from a device that has been used before.

The two-step authentication will only be available for Premium account holders and business users for now. In time, however, all users will have access to the new security option, Evernote promises. In addition, Evernote also comes with an overview that shows the user from which devices have logged in in the last thirty days. The account settings also reveal which apps have access to the user’s Evernote data.

The new security options follow after it was announced in early March that Evernote had fallen victim to a hack. In doing so, the hackers managed to get hold of account information, including usernames, encrypted passwords and email addresses.
