Evernote allows view notes by employees opt-in

Evernote will give employees access to user notes, but only on an opt-in basis. In the privacy policy that Evernote wanted to introduce in January, this was on an opt-out basis. The company no longer enforces that policy.

Evernote will use machine learning to improve its services and employees can view notes from users, but only if they give permission. The company said this in response to criticism of its proposed policy change.

“We announced a change to our privacy policy that made it seem like we didn’t care about the privacy of our users or their notes. That was not our intention and our customers let us know that we messed up,” writes Greg Chiemingo from Evernote.

In the coming months, Evernote will adjust its current privacy policy and the company claims to take the concerns expressed into account. The new privacy policy was supposed to come into effect on January 23, but that plan has been shelved, the company says.
