Everest climbers get GPS device against false claims reach summit

The Nepalese government’s tourism department is going to equip some mountaineers with GPS devices to prevent the mountaineers from making false claims about reaching the top of Mount Everest.

In addition to preventing false claims of reaching the top of the highest mountain in the world, the GPS devices are also intended to better reach climbers in need. It is still a test for which some mountaineers can register voluntarily. If it works well, it will be mandatory for all climbers from next year. The data from the GPS devices will be checked after the climbers return safely to determine whether they have actually reached the top. Climbers who reach the top of the 8850-meter mountain are already required to take photos as proof that they have made it to the top. In addition, a report must be prepared by an official official who will be staying at the base camp during the climb.
