EVE Online studio CCP wants to work on new mmorpg
The Icelandic CCP wants to work on a new mmorpg, according to a vacancy they have posted on their website. They are looking for a Lead Designer who has a lot of experience with both old and modern mmorpgs.
According to the vacancy, the new team would be based in the CCP studio in London. There, a ‘small, close and experienced team’ would work on a ‘new and very ambitious’ mmorpg. Candidates are subject to several requirements, some of which are quite strict. Mainly the fact that CCP is looking for someone who has released at least 1 prominent RPG or MMO as Lead Designer or Design Director will narrow the list of eligible applicants. Furthermore, experience with Unreal Engine 4 is ‘a big plus’.
CCP’s most famous title is EVE Online, which is already 14 years old. This is a mmorpg set in the space of the future and offers the possibility to practice such professions as mining, piracy, trade and exploration, as well as, of course, space battles against both computer-controlled and human enemies. The battles in EVE Online are sometimes so radical and large-scale that they make the news in gaming media.
However, there is no certainty that this new game will actually come out. In 2014, for example, CCP pulled the plug on mmog World of Darkness, which took eight years to develop. The 56 employees working on the game at the time were out on the street. Earlier this year, it also closed two studios and halted development on a VR multiplayer shooter version of EVE Online, subtitled Valkyrie.
