European Commission postpones decision deadline for Activision takeover by one month
The European Commission has extended the deadline for a decision on the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft. That deadline was April 25 and has now become May 22. Microsoft has made several agreements in the meantime to appease authorities.
Reuters writes that the European competition authority will now collect feedback from competitors and consumers. Reuters previously reported, based on its sources, that it seems that Microsoft will receive European approval for the billion-dollar takeover. That’s one of the bigger stumbling blocks to the buy, which could become the biggest in the games industry.
Recently, Microsoft has signed agreements with Nvidia, Boosteroid and Ubitus. The first is access to Call of Duty and other titles on GeForce NOW, and the second and third are also game streaming services. It has also been promised that Nintendo will get Call of Duty on the Switch. Sony would also have been offered a guarantee on the availability of CoD, but would not have responded to this and remains unabatedly critical of the acquisition.
