Anchor brand eufy has introduced a new security camera system with the eufyCam 3. The camera can record in 4k resolution and gets a solar panel to make changing the battery unnecessary. The camera also supports facial recognition.

The new security camera system consists of the eufyCam 3 and the HomeBase 3. The HomeBase 3 is a central hub to which the cameras connect. The eufyCam 3 cameras have a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels. The cameras have an infrared sensor and can show color night vision images from a maximum distance of eight meters with the built-in floodlight on. That lamp can produce a maximum of 100 lumens.

EufyCam 3 gets a 13,400mAh battery that allows the cameras to work for up to a year. The new surveillance cameras will be fitted with an integrated solar panel. Two hours of sunlight daily would be enough to keep the batteries charged. The cameras are IP67 certified and have a speaker and a microphone.

The HomeBase 3 has a soc with four ARM Cortex A55 cores and 1GB memory. The hub also gets a neural processing unit that can process 1 TOPS. The hub has two USB ports, a 1Gbit/s LAN port and a SATA 3.0 interface. The latter can be used to install a 2.5″ storage medium, to increase the built-in storage by up to 16TB. By default, the hub comes with 16GB storage, which would be enough for up to three months of recordings. This storage is encrypted, eufy states. .

New to the HomeBase 3 surveillance camera hub is the use of artificial intelligence to process images to recognize what is in the images. This self-learning AI, which eufy calls BionicMind, should “eventually” be able to recognize different people, animals and objects with 99 percent certainty. BionicMind should be able to recognize faces, human shapes, body positions, different types of objects ‘and even human behavior’.

To do this, BionicMind analyzes data that enters the HomeBase 3 via the eufyCams. Eufy emphasizes that the processing is done on the HomeBase 3 and not on eufy servers. Also, no subscription is required for this feature. Eufy customers therefore have full control over who has access to the data, the company said. BionicMind should let users classify and categorize images based on family, friends and pets. The surveillance system can also notify the user if an unknown person is seen on the camera images. The data and images can be viewed in eufy’s Security app.

HomeBase 3 will be compatible “in the future” with previous eufy products, including the Video Smart Lock, Video Doorbell Dual and the Floodlight Cam 2 Pro. The HomeBase 3 is now on sale in Germany as a bundle with two eufyCam 3 cameras. This bundle costs 549 euros. It is not clear whether and when the cameras will also come to the Benelux.
