ESET releases update for false positive notifications

ESET’s antivirus software gave a false positive on many websites on Monday. Certain commonly used javascripts have been incorrectly identified as a trojan. ESET has since released new definitions that address the issue.

Over the course of Monday morning, many reports came in about ad networks serving a trojan. Numerous major websites would be affected. It appears to be a false positive from ESET, the maker of antivirus software now reports.

The bug was in database version 13102 and an update of the virus definitions has since been released, which has solved the problem. Users who have updated to the latest version 13103 should no longer see the fake message.
