Error in filter list adblockers makes the layout of websites with ‘n’ disappear

Users of ad blockers such as Adblock Plus may see unformatted websites on Thursday. This is due to a typo in the Easylist filter list. All websites with an n  are filtered incorrectly.

The error was caused by the addition of the letter n to Easylist’s list of filters. All websites with the letter n in the domain name or in the tld are therefore displayed incorrectly because CSS and images are blocked. Users only see text on a white page.

All adblockers using Easylist suffer from the problem. While the bug is resolved soon after discovery, it may last longer for users. The list is usually loaded once a day, and if users have done so before the error has been resolved, they will be presented with plain text websites.

Users can restore the display of websites by disabling their ad blocker or by manually updating the filter lists. In Adblock Plus you can do this by choosing Advanced in the Options menu and then Update all filter lists.

The creator of the list says it has built-in a fix to prevent such an error in the future.
