EPOS and Sennheiser release an external GSX 300 sound card for 79 euros

EPOS, an audio product manufacturer, has released its GSX 300 sound card. This external sound card is produced in collaboration with Sennheiser and is aimed at gamers. The GSX 300 has a suggested retail price of 79 euros and is available since this week.

EPOS announces the GSX 300 in a blog post. The sound card supports a maximum of 96KHz / 24-bit audio. The rear of the GSX 300 contains two 3.5mm jacks; one for headphones and one for a microphone. The latter offers integrated noise cancellation and a noise gate, which switches off the microphone when it is not being spoken. The front has a volume button, which is synchronized with the Windows 10 volume. The device also has a programmable button, which can be used, for example, to switch between audio profiles.

The sound card is connected via a micro USB cable. The sound card is intended for use with a PC, but according to Epos the device also works on consoles, for example. However, consoles lack the corresponding EPOS software, which prevents functions such as 7.1 virtual sound from working. Such 7.1 processing on a PC also lowers the audio quality to 48KHz / 16-bit, the company reports in an FAQ. EPOS writes that the company is working on a software upgrade that should enable virtual 7.1 audio at a higher ‘resolution’.

The specifications also indicate that the sound card is suitable for headphones with an impedance of 25 to 75 ohms. However, in the FAQ, EPOS writes that headphones with a resistance greater than 50 ohms “will affect” the volume of the audio. The GSX 300 has dimensions of 168x144x57mm and weighs 160 grams. The included micro USB cable is 1.2 meters long. EPOS and Sennheiser supply the external sound card in two colors; black and white.
