Epic Games wants to acquire Psyonix, the developer of Rocket League. Despite Epic having its own download store, the developer says Rocket League will remain in Valve’s download store Steam. Rocket League will be released on the Epic Games Store at the end of this year.

Epic wants to bring Rocket League to a wider audience with the acquisition, the company reports. The company does not say when the game will be released on the Epic Games Store, but according to Variety it will be at the end of this year. Psyonix emphasizes that the game will remain available on Steam and that updates for the game will continue to be released. It’s not clear if Rocket League will still be available for purchase on Steam for new customers after appearing on Epic’s download store.

The companies have not disclosed how much Epic will pay for the developer from the American city of San Diego. Psyonix employs more than 130 people who are all coming along to Epic. The deal should be closed by the end of this month or early next month.

Rocket League uses Epic’s Unreal engine, which means that both companies have been working together for some time. Epic has seen its revenue increase recently with the release of Fortnite. It opened the Epic Games Store last year as a competitor to Steam, because it believes that Valve is keeping 30 percent too much revenue from game sales for itself. In the Epic store, developers must pay 12 percent.

The game in which players play soccer with cars is the only successful game from Psyonix. Rocket League was released for PS4 in 2015 and has since been released for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
