Epic Games will earn $450 million from Fortnite on iOS in 2018
Players spent about $450 million on in-game purchases in the iOS version of Fortnite in 2018, Sensor Tower calculated. That is more than four times more than was spent on the iOS version of PUBG.
Sensor Tower claims it can estimate how much is spent on various apps for mobile devices and tracked what was spent in 2018 on both the iOS version of PUBG and Fortnite. The latter was the biggest winner, with December being a particularly successful month for the colorful shooter. Players are said to have spent about $69 million in December, 83 percent more than in November and also 16 percent more than in July, the previous peak month. So most of the money is spent in vacation months. In total, players gave about 450 million dollars to the iOS version of Fortnite in 2018.
The upward trend was also noticeable in the number of downloads of the game itself. In December, the game was installed almost 60 percent more often than in November. In total, the game was installed more than 82 million times on an iOS device in 2018.
PUBG is clearly less popular on iOS. Players spent just under $100 million on the PUBG, which, however, appeared in the App Store a month later. Sensor Tower also tracks what Android apps deliver, but Epic Games offers Fortnite outside of Google’s PlayStore, making it difficult to estimate its revenue.
