The Epic Games Store recently received an update that makes it easier to request a refund for a game. Previously, consumers had to request money back via a contact form, now you can do this via the payment history.

If you now want to request a refund for a game, according to Epic Games, you can go to the user’s Account settings menu to see a list of games on the Transaction page. There the user can click on ‘Request Refund’ in the game to be requested back. First, according to How To Geek, users had to go to the Help page to indicate which game they wanted to request a refund for via a contact form. That old way was more cumbersome than with competitors such as Steam, with the update Epic Games somewhat equalizes this.

The refund conditions have not changed with the update. Consumers may still have played a game for a maximum of 2 hours in 14 days. If the game has been played for more than 2 hours, or if it has been purchased more than 14 days ago, users will not get their money back. Incidentally, players also do not get their money back if they have violated the terms of service of a game. For example, gamers who have been banned from multiplayer may not be able to request a refund for that game.

Another refund change that Epic Games may have made is that users will now automatically get a portion of the money back if a game goes on sale shortly after. Epic Games has not yet officially talked about it, but game designer Joshua Boggs does write about it on Twitter. According to Boggs, he bought a game and the price went down shortly after. Then he got a message from Epic Games that Boggs would get the difference back. It is not known what conditions apply to the partial refund of the purchase amount.

With the recently released update, Epic Games will check immediately on client startup which games the user owns or does not own. The Store also now has support for keyless purchases via webshops from, among others, Fanatical and Green Man Gaming. Previously, consumers bought a key code from these stores, which they had to enter via the client. Now they can link their store accounts to their Epic Games Store account, so games can be linked without using a keycode. Finally, the Store now allows users more control over client bandwidth usage and has support for more currencies.
