Epic Games Store begins beta testing with support for mods and achievements
The Epic Games Store will receive support for mods and achievements. Both features are available in beta for some games from now on. For example, ARK: Survival Evolved will receive support for achievements and mods will be added to Mechwarrior 5.
‘Certain games’ now show achievements, let Epic Games on Twitter know. It is an early version of the implementation for achievements, according to the company, and players can still expect changes to the feature. Epic does not say which games will receive achievements, but based on the tweet, it seems at least to be ARK: Survival Evolved. Achievement support is not yet indicated on game store pages.
Epic let us know in addition that support for mods is added to its digital game store. The first game to add mod support is Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries. At the time of writing, there are twelve mods available for that game. It is still an early iteration of the mod function, Epic says. In time, more games will receive support for mods.
Epic Games has been working on support for mods and achievements for some time. The company has a roadmap for its Games Store on Trello, which already mentioned these features. It is striking that achievements according to the roadmap have not yet been released, although this is already the case for mods. In the future, the digital game store must, among other things, receive support for user reviews. An Android version of the Epic Games Store is also on the roadmap.
