Epic Games pulls Infinity Blade trilogy from App Store
Epic Games has pulled the Infinity Blade games from the App Store. The in-app purchase options have also been removed. Current players will still be able to access their account and play.
Epic Games doesn’t give a very clear reason for removing the trilogy from the App Store, but the main reason seems to be a lack of time or money. The developer says it is working on the RPG Spyjinx and “other projects”, making it “more and more difficult to support the Infinity Blade series at a level that meets our standards”. Players with an Infinity Blade account can redownload the games to their devices via their Apple ID.
Epic promises that Infinity Blade III will be updated during January, with “Clash Mobs and other surprises” appearing in the game. In addition, the developer reports that Infinity Blade will “pop up in unexpected places.”
With that last comment, Epic Games may be referring to its own game store, which the company opened on December 7. This online store is a competitor to Steam; Epic Games will sell its own games and those of third parties here. Whether the Infinity Blade games are sold in this store and whether the disappearance of the series from the App Store has anything to do with this is unknown.
